Do NOT visit New Zealand if you are a bird lover!!! You will be in for an awful shock!!! In terms of native wildlife, forget it -- most of what you see will be domestic and feral cats prowling their cities and countryside in search of birds and other animals to torture and kill. They are everywhere!! New Zealand has one of the highest rates of cat ownership in the world, and at the same time the slackest and most irresponsible laws dealing with cat control. In fact there are no laws. Cats are completely uncontrolled, no rules whatsoever concerning licencing, de-sexing, micro-chipping, the wearing of bells, vaccination, or the movement of cats.
