A Leukemia patient must find a matching donor so their body does not reject the stem cells taken from the bone marrow of the donor. Ordinarily the matching donor is of the same race or descent as the patient. A German Ordinarily matches with perhaps an American of German descent. Or a Chinese American might match with a Chinese donor and so on.

She was in desperate need of a bone marrow transplant to save her life. But like most African American patients could not find a matching donor. Massage therapy is a marvelous and beneficial form of holistic condition care. Massage can supply stress relief, muscle tension relief, enhance circulation, and the list goes on. But massage can be detrimental to your condition if you have safe bet physical conditions, illnesses, or disease. A massage may be adjusted for a local contraindication in some ways. It can mean an area is to be avoided, such a the lower leg of a recently sprained ankle. Absolute Contraindications

Not all absolute contraindications are permanent; meaning you may have a condition that, once it clears, you can receive a massage. These conditions are typically an illness such as a viral infection. Some conditions are permanent and unfortunately if you have one, you will not be able to receive massage. In either case, as long as the condition is in an acute stage, you will be denied massage therapy.

The following is a list of common, but temporary, absolute contraindications for massage: Chickenpox, touch Dermatitis (if wide spread), diarrhea (if due to infection), fever, German Measles, Gout (during acute phase), Hepatitis, Hives, High Blood Pressure (unless controlled by medication, diet or exercise) Influenza (the flu), lice, Lupus (during a flare up), measles, Mononucleosis (mono), Mumps, Pneumonia, Ringworm, new injuries or surgeries, Scabies, and Tonsillitis. When you are dealing with someone who has just been diagnosed with cancer or any other life-threatening disease, be particular what you say to them. It is so hard to find just the right words, so sometimes it is best not to say too much right away. I was tempted to say something to her about not having to worry, because we would find a way to make it all go away, but I know that is not true. I wanted to tell her that we would go to every hospital and spend as much money as it would take to get her well, but that is not the reality of the situation.

So for now she knows that her house loves and supports her, and that she will have the choice of what kind of medicine she gets, and which doctors and hospitals she will go to. This gives her the respect that she deserves and the ability to have control over something that she indeed has no control over at all. That is the least we can do.

Also, we will not start treating her any differently. There will be no meals delivered, laundry done, or offers to baby sit with the children. That would be insulting and insinuate that she is no longer able to care for her own family. She is still working and wants to be independent. That is the word she used when she told us.

My stepdaughter is a nurse, so she knows what to expect. The rest of us will wait to see what she wants to share with us and wait until she asks before offering any help, either that be emotional or financial in nature. Just knowing that we are there for her, respecting her decisions in all of this, is the most loving way that we can be there for her during this difficult time in her young life.
